It's possible to change routing on your PC to stop VPN interfering with your internet connection. My son showed me how to do that a while back but I forgot all the details.

But like you said it popups up because there is a drop and I think there are minor drops with my ISP, so as per behavior the first available connection popups, that is this VPN connection. My ISP is directly connected via the network card it does not need to be dialed-up just a web based login.
