>I'm pretty sure I posted here before about my son Nathaniel's efforts to bring a choir of students from Burma (Myanmar) for a tour in the United States. After nearly two years' effort, it's happening beginning next week.

Marshal and I drove to Greenwich, CT, yesterday for the first combined Gitameit-Spizzwinks concert. (What's 125 miles each way between friends? <g>) It was amazing.

The Gitameit singers, 23 men and women from 19 to 36 (the choir director), sang about a dozen songs in a variety of languages (including Bulgarian!). The sheer joy on their faces as they performed would have been worth the trip, but the music was exquisite. The whole group sang about half the songs, a mixed voice a cappella group did a few, and a group of 6 women sang a couple.

After this set, the Spizzwinks joined them for Accidentally in Love (from Shrek 2, a Spizzwink standard) with the lead vocals divided between a Spizzwink (a teddy-bear like kid with the great name, Matt Kroon) and the Gitameit choir director.

After an intermission, the Spizzwinks did a set, wonderful as always. Then, the concert closed with two combined pieces, first a Burmese song conducted by the Gitameit leader, and finally Somewhere from West Side Story. It was gorgeous.

If anybody here is close enough to get to the other concerts, it's definitely worth your time. We'll be back in New Haven for the Monday night concert, so if anyone's thinking of going, let me know.
