My solution then was to go to MS Access which reads and writes this file format just fine. I was hoping that someone out there knew of a trick to make it happen in VFP. I may have to go with the odbc approach, but that is rather new to me, so I may be forced to do a good ole' fashioned export import thing.

Yes, MDX are dBase IV and higher. I have NO idea what format the memo fields are. I know that Borland was changing the structure while keeping the DBT name several years ago. At least you have a working (if klutzy) approach through Access.
