I can connect on the box it is installed on but I only have SSMS 2005 on the original box. If I install SSMS 2008 on the original box, will I still be able to connect to the earlier versions on this box? Will that install some form of connectivity software that will open up the access?

>>I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition installed on my development box and use it for several applications. I needed to have access to a SQL Server 2008 version so I installed the Developers Edition on another box in my office. I have regular access to this box for everything else over my network and both are behind my firewall but there is no windows firewall running on either of these.

>>I have the SQL Server running and the database attached with access on that box via SSMS no problem. I have confirmed that TCP/IP and other protocols are turned on and also the SQL Server Browser is running. In VS Server Explorer the Server shows up but under services there is only a red circle with a line through it.

>>What might I need to get the SQL Server to advertise it's services so I can access it on this other box? Did I mess up by installing only the Developers Edition? I could have used a more robust version, just didn't. I also didn't want another version (instance) running on my same development box. Too much already running and dragging me down.
>>Thanks for any help
