It is not said per se. I think they are amateurs but I dont know how much training they may have had. I made an assumption.

He knows what sells. He has seen so many performances so he will probbaly have an idea of what is good or bad plus what can be sold in the marketplace. Plus there is the crowd reaction. It's business, of course, but fun to see what one assumes are relatvely average people doing relatively extraordinary things.

I dont watch these shows - someone usualy forwards me the youtube link to the winner. I dont have time to watch 90% time wasting performances in order to see 10% interesting performances. I waste my time watching the stock markets go up and down - lol!
