>>For the Canadians advocating the US follow adopt some form of universal health care system, have you given any consideration how it will deteriorate your own health care options?
>>
>>- Drug companies currently offset their losses in price-fixed markets by overcharging in the US. If the US becomes price-fixed that option leaves and the companies will significantly slow their research.
>
>We have a price-fixed market for drug companies in Canada? You have some references on that?

I didn't realize this was unknown. See Patented Medicines Prices Review Board

>>- It stands to reason that a universal US system would have the same, if not worse, problems as those in Canada. Where will the desperate go without the US as a life-saving option?
>
>Life-saving option? Our healthcare system is that bad?

I didn't realize this was unknown either. For a recent example see Canada's recent baby boom and how many were delivered in the US.

>>- Given the US government's ability to completely screw up everything it touches, it's likely that health care in America will get significantly worse which will lead to much higher levels of health tourism. With Canada as the obvious choice for US health tourists, will Canada be able to handle the influx?

>I hope that we will prioritize canadians. Otherwise, you can always try India, China, etc.

It's never a good idea to bet one's life on "hope".
