The article was about the wearing of Burkhas in France. The poster asked what we thought. I responded to that question. I still stand by my view. As long as a woman is wearing a burkha by HER own choice then it should be allowed as a part of religious freedom.

Your points don't hold water. As just one example, identification is required to sign out a child from school. A woman wearing a burkha is allowed to show her face to other women. all she would have to do is go into an office and show her face to a female employee along with a photo identification. Being searched by police, well, she would be searched by a female officer. Go into a girl's restroom? Before men go into women's restrooms they call into the restroom to ensure it is empty first. Just because you are wearing a burkha doesn't mean you've lost your vocal cords. Security cameras? That is a part of the risk we take in order to uphold our religious freedom. Or are all of your arguments implying that a man would be wearing a burkha disguised as a woman? Gee, I don't know. How many men go around disguising themselves as priests? That would take a lot less effort.

>Sorry for the kippah confusion, I've read it like a kirpans (I tought that kippah was the english word for french kirpan).

>I'm not talking about the supression of religion (although I beleive that it would bring more peace around the world), I'm talking about forcing women to wear/do things they don't want to. Maybe pediphelia was too exagerated as an exemple, but it seem that rape isn't. What about the new law that was supposed to pass in Afghanistan were the women couldn't refuse on any reason sexual act with their husband? Freedom of religion?

>Burka does represent some security issues that some peoples may exploit. It's helpful if:
>- I don't want to get caught by the security cameras or
>- I'm being searched by the police or
>- I'm a man and I'm tempted to go look in the girl restroom or changing room or
>- I'm in the children selling market. I can take the child of another burka-wearing woman, the schools employees won't be able to recognize me from the real mother
>- etc.
>
>>How on earth does a burka or a kippah become a weapon? What does freedom of religious dress have to do weapons and pediphelia? Nothing.
>>
>>You are stretching because you do not have a valid argument supporting supression of religion. Or if you do, you haven't presented it here. Christians have been violent in the past (even recently) so do we ban worship services since they might gather there and plan their attacks? Or do we ban the bible because someone may decide to use it to hide an explosive device? Do we ban wearing the cross next? Who knows what priests are hiding under their robes, maybe an AK47?
