How to trap key pressed outside of application?

Thanks for your suggestion, I think that is a valid point, and also a good idea to use an application trigger the function. This would work actually very easy for my situation.

My application let's you send a message to another user. In order to send the message you could press a shortcut and a window opens where you can type the message and press send, then the window closes also right away.

The program would be minimized in the icon tray, so you could also right-click on the icon tray and open the message window from there. but this is meant as tool for our developers to quickly communicate with each other by means of sending and receiving messages, as an alternative to Twitter.

That's why I thought the shortcut could come in handy. What do you think?
