>It IS black and white. The belief that one can hold conflicting views is largely what has led to the U.S. moving slowly and slowly away from the idea of being a free or even substantially free country. On BOTH sides of the political spectrum, you have so-called leaders who pay lip-service about "the american dream" and "freedom", and yet want to qualify it with programs and institutions based solely on NEED.

I am not 'hurling' cliches. Providing a national health care system is not based solely on need. It does not in itself make this country a socialist country. We do not go from a republic to a socialist country solely based on the implementation of some form of national health care. It is not only available to the low income or do you know something I don't? I thought it was to be available to everyone. The lower income may be the only ones taking advantage of it, but that hasn't been shown yet to be the case and we won't know that until it is instituted and what coverages are included. Granted, the system has gone through many iterations over the past few months, but I haven't read that yet. I have also written here on the UT the concerns I've heard about it which may or may not have been my concerns as well. Some were, some weren't. I don't know why you insist on attacking me or my comments over healthcare.

As to your statement above (bold emphasis mine), that is a subjective statement or clearly your opinion. Do you have any evidence to support it?

I found an article about Colin Powell.. It appears that in this case, he agrees with me:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jul/03/powell-airs-doubts-on-obama-agenda/

Snippet:
Colin Powell, one of President Obama's most prominent Republican supporters, expressed concern Friday that the president's ambitious blitz of costly initiatives may be enlarging the size of government and the federal debt too much.

"I'm concerned at the number of programs that are being presented, the bills associated with these programs and the additional government that will be needed to execute them," Mr. Powell said in an excerpt of an interview with CNN's John King, released by the network Friday morning.

Mr. Powell, a retired U.S. army general who rose to political prominence after a long and accomplished military career, said that health care reform and many of Mr. Obama's other initiatives are "important" to Americans.

But, he said, "one of the cautions that has to be given to the president -- and I've talked to some of his people about this -- is that you can't have so many things on the table that you can't absorb it all."

Pete Peterson also mentioned it in his interview on Charlie Rose last night.
