I'd say they all pretty much fall within the top 5% of VFP programmers. If that's the case, then it only makes sense that one purchase one of their packages to make their own apps that much better.
I would say that is true for the most part. If you have special needs that aren't addressed by a general framework, you might spend more time trying to find work-arounds with the commercial framework that could be easily solved with a specialized custom framework. I will admit though that this is probably the exception.
Definitely, the VFP developers that make the frameworks are hot-shots.
