>>>I'm working on what's basicly going to be a dispatching system...it's going to manage a fleet of drivers.
>>>
>>>What I'd *like* to use is micrsoft mappoint to do this. Now I've found a way I can use OLE to get the milage and routing and all that kind of stuff....so I've figured out how to do it. My questions are more along the lines of licensing...
>>>
>>>I know there is Microsoft Mappoint, and there is another edition that i Microsoft Mappoint Fleet Edition - and i'ts also my understanding that there is a Microsoft Mappoint web-service.
>>>
>>>I guss what I'm trying to figure out is which of these I should actually be using and how much all this junk costs. I don't seem to have much luck finding out a clear answer to anything other than the cost of Microsoft Mappoint 2009 - the standard edition not the fleet one. Anyone have any clues here to point me in the right direction?
>>>
>>>Thanks!
>>
>>Looks like there isn't a Fleet Edition anymore and the WebService is now called Bing Maps
>>http://www.microsoft.com/maps/ Licensing is http://www.microsoft.com/maps/product/licensing.aspx for the bin maps.

>Well - I called the 1-800 number - interesting the lady I talked to was not much help - I'm going to try calling again tomorrow and talk to someone else. For some reason the "how much does it cost" question was impossibe to get an answer. Anyway she did send me a 128 page word document about product user rights. One thing that really baffels me:

>Fleet Applications. Fleet applications are software that use MapPoint, and data from sensors used specifically with multiple vehicles to provide location information (such as GPS systems and triangulation devices). You may use MapPoint with fleet applications only if you license MapPoint Fleet Edition. For MapPoint Fleet Edition, you may use the software with fleet applications for any number of vehicles.

>......ok. So what the heck does THAT mean? What I want to do is have a bunch of drivers start in the morning, run my program and it tell each driver where he's going to go for the day - so that means I need to calculate and recommend a route of destinations based on the location of more than one vehicle, right? So what the heck - I can't use the FLEET edition to calculate routes for more than 1 vechile? What the heck is the point of a FLEET edition if you can't do that???

I think all they are saying is you can't make a "TomTom" application out of their software. If the information is sent back to a dispatcher and that person makes the calls where the trucks should go you should be ok.
