I used to use TWAIN for image capture but I have since moved to VisioForge video capture ActiveX control that shows all available video devices (TWAIN includes) and allows you to capture a frame or video from the device. It's not free but it works well and solves all the Vista TWAIN and WIA issues (for me at least).
Thanks Brandon,
I'm looking in to that now! Any idea what the licensing is for distributing with an application? I can't find any obvious explanation on their site.
