You're right, that's very odd indeed!
Is there any chance that you could send me (in a private message) enough of what would be needed to reproduce this problem? From your explanation, it does not appear to be a problem with finding the parent class, so something else must be going on.

The difficulty seems to be in navigating the path the is store in the ClassLoc field of the VCX. The algorithm for navigating those paths has been tweaked a few times.
