Your reaction that it's about control and humiliation is in line with the reaction of the others here. Apparently there has been some sort of a campaign in the US, telling people that it's not about sex. Well, sure, other factors can also be used as a starting point in the theorizing, but I stick to the theory that it is primarily about hormone levels, testosterone to name one.
