Your reaction that it's about control and humiliation is in line with the reaction of the others here. Apparently there has been some sort of a campaign in the US, telling people that it's not about sex. Well, sure, other factors can also be used as a starting point in the theorizing, but I stick to the theory that it is primarily about hormone levels, testosterone to name one.

All joking aside...I've read the recent comments and I want to offer this...

I am not a supporter of the feminist movement and I think most feminists are idiots.

Having said that, the biggest discussion about rape should be the damage that it does, to women and to kids (which can include young boys).

I've known two females who were raped during their college years. In one case, a bright and energetic girl became an absolute basket case for years, and turned into a bitter person later in life. She couldn't even remain friends with me because she hated men so much. In a second case, a very conservative girl wound up getting involved in drugs afterwards and did some jail time because she became so wild.

My wife's father physically abused her mother - and her best friend growing up was molested. To this day, even after years of marriage, if I look like I'm physically upset about something, my wife still has a fear in the back of her head that I'll flip out and do something horrible, even though she knows I've never laid a violent hand on a female.

The minute a woman is hit/raped (or they're close to those who have), it puts a lifetime of fear into them that they don't deserve. Even if they are strong enough to move on, the fear is still there. THAT is what rape is all about - the nightmarish damage that it does.

I don't give a ____ whether rape occurs because of hormone levels, power, dominiation, frustration, whatever. What's undeniable is the damage it does. It is the ultimate form of violating someone's rights (aside from murder).
I have no sympathy for rapists - as far as I'm concerned, a confirmed rape means the guy loses his frick and frack. If we have enough of those as punishments, then the speculation as to "why" rape occurs may become more of an academic discussion.
