I have heard that SCSI will be more reliable as far as making good copies of data. Also, I would think SCSI would be faster (especially if you want to multi-task while you write data), but I am not sure. Lotsa help, eh? I will give a personal opinion based on experience about Acer CD-ROM drives. My wife runs a home-based computer hardware sales business and it appears that Acer CD drives are not as reliable (ie. they break more often) than the other types that she sells (mainly Panasonic, Mitsumi, and Sony). Now, she hasn't sold an Acer drive for a few years for this reason, so things may have changed. And, it could have just been bad luck, but I have heard of similar experiences at other resellers.

I have heard some good things about the Hewlett Packard CD-R and CD-RW drives. Also, Ricoh makes some nice drives. I think the best suggestion would be to read-up on some of the PC magazine sites.

Good luck!
