I think MS Config is more of a debuging/trouble shooting tools and not something to change the system settings. That's why you get the message that something was changed. The service probably isn't started but MS Config reverted back to normal so if you clicked ok the system is back to default.

>I didn't think of this approach. Which I will try, if MSCONFIG fails to help me. I was just wondering why MSCONFIG keeps trying to change my changes.

>>Can't you just run services.msc and find the service and double click and set the startup type to Manual. Then when windows start the service won't start and if you need it started you have to go back into services and select start the service.

>>>Hi,
>>>
>>>I am having a frustrating experience trying to disable a couple of services that auto start by Windows. These are some VPN services.
>>>
>>>Here is how I disable them:
>>>
>>>1. I run MSCONFIG, go to Services tab and uncheck these 2 VPN services
>>>2. Click on Apply, OK, Reboot.
>>>
>>>When the PC reboots I get the message:
>>>
>>>"You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the Windows starts.
>>>The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Start up mode.
>>>Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo
>>>the changes you made using the System Configuration Utility."
>>>
>>>Then when I click on Ok, I get the MSCONFIG again with the services I unchecked being checked again.
>>>
>>>How do I apply the changes in MSCONFIG (unchecking certain services) and make sure the changes are saved and not reverted on the reboot?
>>>
>>>TIA.
