Exppression has been touted as the "preferred" XAML editor for WPF yet as Mike has found out, it does not have even support this form of editing of the XAML code.

That sounds a bit extreme. I usually work with XAML directly in VS - but using the split pane with the designer and the document view is surely preferable that having to wait until runtime to confirm what you've written.

A *bit* of an exageration don't you think?
In my experience in practice the guys working with EB rarely inspect the XAML let alone edit it directly. I guess MS expected it to be mainly used in that way.
As I mentioned elsewhere If I had my preference EBs use would be confined to developing bits like Gradient Brushes and StoryBoards (the latter being especially complex, if not impossible, to write in XAML directly) . I guess the same would apply in spades to 3D work but I haven't explored that.....
