I went to the http://www.hp.com web site and looked up my particular model to see if it qualified, as I was promised by the salesman, and I found that my laptop was on the list of those that qualified for the Windows 7 upgrade.

You can to the web site of the Laptop manufacturer and do some looking around. The salesman told me that the Laptop/Notebook sales fell off when Microsoft announced the release date for WIndowes 7. In order to induce people to contiunue to buy laptops, the manufacturer's promised a free upgrade to Windows 7. This may be the case for desktops also, but I cannot confirm that.
