On the OS/2 front:
I was trying to remember (as usual) what went on back then.
IIRC, OS/2 started off as a joint IBM/MS operation but IBM were regretting letting 'the genie out of the box' with the PC and really wanted OS/2 to be tied to IBM hardware. Microsoft, OTOH, were just getting into their brash, all-powerfull mode and decided to go their own way.......

>>I'm sure you remember when software was delivered on 720 MB floppy disks ;-) (Which weren't actually floppy). The alpha dog was the OS/2 SDK, which came on dozens of diskettes with about six linear feet of manuals.

>I was a die-hard OS/2 fan. When it first came out, it really *did* do Windows better than Windows. <g> That was back in the Windows 3.1 and 3.11 days, but I kept using OS/2 on that desktop computer until at least 1999 or 2000 (I had "normal" Windows laptops that I used as well). I *still* have that computer in my closet. One of these days I should boot it up just for grins.

>>I started a new job (contract) last week, as one of three guys supporting a VFP / SQL Server app which runs a good part of their business. So far, so great. The developers and our manager work in one big room, which is part of the scrum / agile mindset. (We don't have projects, we have 30 day sprints; we don't have tasks, we have stories. Still working on mind-melding with all that). There is one Indian lady who sits over in the corner and quietly works on some new C#.NET stuff they are doing. I am always very nice to her ;-) You never know....

>You know, there are some good things about agile development and the scrum process. But, if not implemented quite right, it can get pretty bad. Like at the last company where I worked ... I think those of us in the trenches ended up calling it Waterfall Agile. <g> Scrums can work pretty good, I liked the concept> I just didn't like the way it ended up working in reality ... wasn't quite right. We could have probably benefitted from some Scrum training from companies who specialize in that sort of thing. That whole "story" and "story points" thing drove me nuts ... who came up with that terminology?!?!
