In fact I had started the process by adding another hard drive and installing windows 7 on it but the drive died today <s>.

I have now solved the problem and thought I would post here just in case someone was interested. In my research it seems that some Asus motherboards are not capable of using the build in video in conjunction with either a PCIe or PCI video card. But I was able to use my old PCIe card and added a PCI video card. All is well now.
