I think it is important to put all of this in the proper perspective. First, MS is making a push into enterprise soultions - a place where others (IBM, Oracle) have reigned for years. Second, and most important, the majority of the software developed today (as in total man-hours) is NOT for large enterprises, but for small to medium sized public and private entities.

Granted, for large scale enterprises (or soon-to-be-large) and e-commerce n-tiered solutions are the way to go. But for many, it is overkill and SQL Server is NOT necessary, MTS is NOT neccessay, VB front-ends are NOT neccessary (unless you are a VB developer), and ACCESS is out of the question. In these cases VFP is all we need.

Don't get me wrong - I'm having a ball developing a muti-tiered framework and SQL Server 7.0 looks REAL nice. I'll be there for those types of projects.

But there are those who are getting caught-up in the MS marketing frenzy - not only programmers, but IT and MIS directors are becoming increasingly frustrated and confused. I also think that the MS marketing department gets confused.
