the benefit of Johns equipment is that its in car with a policeman who can then catch whoever the offender is. The problem with static cameras is that if you are an unregistered or uninsured driver they are no problem to you. We have the same thing here with speed cameras which are usually placed to maximise revenue.

there was a classic example of this near me. In the Uk speed cameras are supposed to be within a certain distance of accident black spots. SO there was one near me on a wide dual carriageway that had a limit of 50, the accident blackspot was on a winding single carriageway coming down a hill about a mile away.
