I can get the error even with an administrative account, and I don't have to run anything in Visual Studio to get this error. Again, the error doesn't come up all the time. I'm trying to find a pattern, but I can't find any yet.

When I installed those symbol files, I got errors saying that the debug files didn't correspond to the DLL files I had, and that not all the debug files where present on the CD.

If you had visited Microsoft recently they just announced a service pack for Visual Studio 6 yes that soon :-( It may solve your problem but then again it may not. Good Luck anyway
