The only thing is that Outlook created a box called "imap.gmail.com" and the messages go there instead of Inbox. Is it possible to change the setting that the messages sent to the IMAP account would go to Inbox?

I'm thinking for your purposes POP is probably simpler.

What do you mean by, "does not work"? First, check that you can receive mail sent to the new account. If you can't, check for typos in server names, passwords etc. Use your other 2 successful accounts as templates to check your non-functioning one.

If you can receive mail but can't send, it might be that your ISP requires that you use their SMTP "smart host" for outgoing mail on the default port 25. If that's the case and you'd still rather use GMail's SMTP server, chances are you have to set the outgoing SMTP service for that account to use a different (non-25) port. Again, if you have other accounts successfully using GMail's SMTP for outgoing mail, check their detailed setup for port settings or anything else different or unusual.
