OIC. The thing is, (practically) every table has a primary key, so if you don't prefix that, at least, you've got to alias.

Actually, I've found the system I use helps with that. For example, with a Membership Types table, I don't have to remember whether it's membertype_pk or type_pk, because I use the three-letter abbreviation everywhere.

I hate 'em, too. In fact, this is about the only place I use underscores; the other is in #defines. Both for the same reason: all upper or all lower case is hard for me to read without word separators.
