>In this sense I guess I really am a bleeding heart. I don't like prerecorded phone messages but I never jump on people who call up to solicit me. If it's a woman with a nice voice I may even flirt with her and see how long I can keep her on the phone. Otherwise I just tell them politely I am not interested. They're just trying to make a living. I sure wouldn't want that job.

>The one time I can remember getting into it with a "badvertiser" (good word) was with some southern guy selling I don't remember what. I said I was not interested and he would not take no for an answer. Finally I hung up on him. He called back! "Ah'm gon come up there and kick your a*s!" I said you could lose your job for this and then he was really off to the races. I hate this sh***y job, my woman left me, on and on. It was a good thing he was hundreds of miles away.

We all have a choice. Maybe I could have made it rich in then Yugoslavia, but I didn't, mostly because of the long list of things on which one could make a living but weren't on my list of things I would do and still sleep well.

I once almost got a job with a telemarketing company, and my problem with that wasn't that I'd have to move to a different state, re-learn everything about the new place, find a place to live etc etc... no, my problem was the nature of the business. You sit there and start calling people in their homes, at the times when they're doing who knows what, and have who knows what kind of a problem, you deserve whatever response you get. They didn't call you, you called them. You can always flip burgers, wash cars, work in the fields, drive a garbage truck or do anything useful instead.

IOW, I feel no sympathy for those who choose such a job.
