A pretty entertaining first round. On Thursday 9 of 16 underdogs won, with Robert Morris nearly making it 10 of 16 with a colossal upset of second seeded Villanova. Yesterday favored teams righted the ship for the most part.

Mike, on Villanova - if I were the athletic director for 'Nova, I would have fired Jay Wright had 'Nova lost the game in the first round. Wright's idiotic "teaching point" with Reynolds almost backfired - as a head coach, you only do that in key games when you know how a player will respond. Well, take a look at Reynolds shooting % in in the game, and you know that he didn't respond the way Wright had hoped. Late in the season, 'Nova has been outmatched and outplayed every step of the way. You can add Wright to the list of head coaches that initially brings some respectability to the program, but can't go beyond that. If 'Nova bows out early (and I do believe the St Mary's Gaels, a team I watch frequently, can beat 'Nova), expect 'Nova's recruting to suffer again and expect Wright to be gone.

As for Purdue...I think Siena should approach Obama and ask Obama not to try to do Siena any more favors. <s>

And I hope Wake Forest beats the crap out of Kentucky tonight. (Christ, I'm rooting for an ACC team?????)
