>>We would be far better off, especially given the superficiality of the "integration of VFP into VS 6", for MS and the VFP team to get out of the VS dream and to, instead, go back to serving the small to medium business and its capability to deliver the WHOLE SOLUTION!

Hi JohnK,

I really have trouble with the idea that speaking candidly, with a 'different' but highly concerned point of view, ". . . makes it tough for the rest of us".

I'm truly taken aback that an *opinion* can have that effect!

I may have 'ouched' you, but you stated again that you 'love VFP'. That sure sounds like it comes from the heart! In any case, my intent was not to malign but rather to suggest that clear thinking could/would lead to different conclusions.

I am presently learning VB, and I will get to SQL Server eventually, but that is *not* the point. The point is that the stated direction for VFP is, at best, a "survival strategy" which hardly serves the VFP community at large. For the vast majority of VFP developers it is akin to VFP being on life-support - the bare necessities of life are being provided but those things which permit a growing and active life simply are forgotten.

I return to the simplest and most obvious point I can make on the matter:

Where does VFP's highly touted native speed come into play in a middle-tier deployment?
Then let's also consider the future of UI components like: the Grid, the Menu designer, the Report designer, native 'Windows' screen objects, ActiveX compatibility, etc. *NONE* of these are essentials for a mid-tier component. So why would we expect the VFP team to do much in these regards? Especially when they have so much on their plate right now with *TRULY* integrating VFP into VS???

Finally, have you considered at all that it may also be because I care very much about VFP and its future too that I raise these issues? Yes, some feel that blind acceptance of the situation is the way to go. I happen not to.

Cheers,

Jim N
