A while back, one of our brethren became disenchanted with fox.wikis.com and set up his own fox wiki. In the same way, people always can set up their own achievement award and run a democratic selection if they're disenchanted with this one. Unless somebody is willing to do that, the choice either is to accept the award that somebody else is prepared to manage, or ignore it. FWIW there may be only one "community" member selected by the other committee members to consider open nominations, but that's more democratic than it used to be and people still agreed with the selections when it was a closed process so it all comes out OK in the end.

Assuming that it's living recipients and if it's "lifetime" meaning it's cumulative over the years of fox life, then Lisa Slater and Ken Levy must stand out IMHO. Lisa may have been less visible for a while, but her contribution was massive in the good old days.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
