You can't really compare that stat between eras because the emergence of relief specialists has changed the game profoundly. Still, he was a workhorse even by the standards of the day. He was the dominant pitcher in baseball from the early to mid 1950s.

It was a tough week for baseball legends. Ernie Harwell also passed on. He was such an institution as the Tigers' long time announcer that fans got him his job back when he was fired once.

Enjoy the game this afternoon! I am envious. The girls will be with Tricia (and her mom) today and I would be tempted to go up for a Brewers game, except they're in Arizona. Typical Brewers -- they have been up and down offensively, then score 17 runs on the Diamondbacks. It seems like they score either one run or 17. What an aggravating team.

I'm sure this Mother's Day will be a little rough for you. Try to think of all the good times and I bet you will be all right. And of course you have children of your own. Plus Marshal, who I'm sure is sensitive enough to come through for you.
