That doesn't surprise me. Once the game proceeds it's very difficult to roll things off the books. The next batter, who made the last out of the game? Never happened? The only time stats roll off in baseball is when a game is rained out in the middle of an inning. And that's an act of God, not a mulligan for umpire error. As Jim Leyland said, there is always the human element and we all make mistakes. It's very, very disappointing for everyone that this mistake happened, but it did.

Someone told me Selig said today that the missed call did not impact the outcome of the game. Which is true. All it affected was an individual stat, albeit a huge one. Very different from Don Denkinger's blown call in the 1985 World Series, which literally took the championship away from the Cardinals and gave it to the Royals. Maybe there is some karma to that, as bad as the Royals have been for so long now, but it sure wasn't fair.

>>I have mixed feelings...on the one hand, the pitcher deserves a perfect game.
>>
>>On the other hand, the Phillies were screwed, and I mean SCREWED, out of a playoff win in 1977 against the Dodgers on a blown call at first base (similar situation...correct call, Phillies win). Yes, it was 33 years ago, but I still feel the anger. :)

>>And I'm sure Cardinals fans in 1985 remember Game 6 of the World Series...
