Always liked that Tom Petty video. Remember a Herb Caenism from the 80s about a kid hearing Bob Dylan and saying "Hey, there's an old guy that sounds like Tom Petty"

>I am trying to go back to sleep and surfing all the wrong sites. A Tom Petty riff came into my head and I landed eventually on his classic music video of "Don't Come Around Here No More." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0JvF9vpqx8) Alice in Wonderland with a rock and roll spin. Fun.

>TP is sort of the opposite profile of my usual rock favorites. Usually I find them early and stick with them, even into decline. I was slow on the uptake with him and gain more respect over time. He is still making great music. (A fairly recent example -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Zork5Z63jk). And he has one of the legendary sidekicks, guitarist Mike Campbell. The jangly guitar sound associated with Petty is actually Campbell.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
