Don't buy SQL Server from Microsoft Store. They lie. When I called to place the order I asked 2 times very specifically if it will be R2 version. The guy said Yes, Yes. I got a regular SQL Server 2008 Developer DVD. When I called back and after talking to someone else, who "seem" to look for more detailed information told me that what I bought is all they have in DVD version. So Amazon has the same thing. I suppose you can only download R2 from the web. But I will never buy anything from MS store.

Like I said, being that 2008R2 just RTMd and has only been on MSDN for a little over a month, I'd be surprised if you could get it on DVD (maybe you can, I just don't know).

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that one could get an annual TechNet subscription for a few hundred dollars, and get these versions much sooner? I know that basic Technet subscriptions don't have everything that MSDN does, but I thought I recalled seeing that TechNet has R2.
