Have you thought about using ADO with VFP to access Access files? Then when MS dumps Access you can easily switch to whatever else they make people believe is the next hot thing.
You stay in business by doing what you believe is the right thing. You also sleep better. If I believe something will work using the tools that will do the job better for my client then I will let them know in a convincing way with hard numbers and reasoning.
I have gone the Access and VB route you are going. Be prepared to work three times as hard than when using VFP and get paid by the hour.
