>Mike, I've never served in the military. But I know several who have (some of whom aren't exactly thrilled with Bush and the Iraqi war). All of them say the same thing - that this is conspiracy BS. No one wants to acknowledge the truth, that in combat things are ugly and messy and innocent people are slaughtered.

>Here's one...in Germany during WWII - German soldiers stole U.S. uniforms and tried to infiltrate U.S. ranks (not exactly a new ploy). Some managed to kill Americans....and sometimes they were caught and we shot the bastards in the head. The idea that the enemy might have stolen a weapon and shot Tillman point-blank (to make it look like Americans killed him) is no less plausible than your conspiracy theory.

We are in agreement that there is all kinds of wild stuff on the internet. I don't trust it any more than you do. What has made me believe he was assassinated, beyond the initial gut feel, is the bit in the Wikipedia article saying this was reported on "Hardball." You can say that is a liberal show, and you'd probably be right, but this is not a liberal vs. conservative issue. (How refreshing). Networks don't put wild stuff on the air without some belief there is truth to it, if for no other reason than to cover their butts.

Please tell your buddies I salute their service. That doesn't mean I have to accept their opinions about what happened as authoritative. What I am reading online is there wasn't even a battle. The whole thing was made up.

I can't prove this beyond the shadow of a doubt, as you know. Eventually I think it will all come out. Someone will talk.
