VFP 5.0a should be fine for what you are doing. You will run into problems if you try to work with VFP COM DLL's. I would suggest upgrading to 6.0.
As far as the second example goes - do you have access to SQL Server? I think that is the only provider that will return multiple recordsets. You cannot use the ODBC OLE-DB Provider for this. My guess is that may be your problem..
