That's plenty of RAM: I only have 2 GB on my system and use VPC almost every day. You do need plenty of disk space, though: each virtual machine (VM) will take a minimum of 2 GB. I use a 750 GB external drive to hold my VMs. In addition to not taking up space on my system, it also makes them portable; I can simply take the drive to another system and fire up my VMs there.
