I don't think your bug tracking app should manage checkout, but could have a way to link the files to the bug report. I know that On Time will handle everything else. (BTW, I'm not sure it's up to the user to assign priority. They always seem to make things #1)
Even though VSS works for you, there are better, more elegant solutions that are easier to use and manage and don't have the problems of VSS. Many of them are free. Switching over is fairly easy and straight forward.
>I would like a system that allows users to report a problem (assigns a priority level, gives a description and a screenshot of the problem, etc.), then an IT person claims ownership of the problem. The system would let the programmer check out files from SourceSafe and log which files were modified to fix the problem. When finished, the IT person would mark the problem as resolved. It would allow users to search for past problems by description, programmer, files, etc.
> Even though Visual SourceSafe has been discontinued, it does what we need it to, which is mostly to prevent files from being modified by more than one person at a time.
