You have to get used to it. If, for example, you have Internet explorer or Windows explorer started from the Quich launch and you want another one, just right click on the 'regular Windows active application representation '

In addition if you do not want too many IE instances pushing everything to the right then Rightcllick Start - properties - Taskbar TAB- Taskbar buttons - choose : Always combine, Hide labels
