>Why do I stay? I have almost total control over the product. I'm not going to get that kind of freedom in a larger company. What interests me in consulting is keeping the freedom but getting decent pay for it. Of course, I still won't have benefits, but my husband has excellent insurance so that's not so bad.

Are you telling me that you are the ONLY person that works on an application that sells for $30K... no Doc people, no QA people?
UG.... I work on a project, the AP sells for about $20k-50K (depending on the size of the comapany.)
We have 5 programmers, 3 QA, and 2 DOC people. Also, we have a Project/Group Manager who does the Project and manages the Trakker issues.
Like you said, how can you sell an ap for that much with lousy DOC?
Actually, our help won awards from technical writer associations, etc.
