You joke but my daughters amaze we sometimes with their ability to know what is what on their bedroom floors. Just to look at it you would think everything had fallen from a great height and landed at random. They somehow keep track of what's clean, what's dirty, what's for that party next week, etc. Oh, and a subcategory in a house with more than one sister: articles of clothing artfully hidden to thwart sticky-fingered sisters.

I suspect the sniff test is a mostly male phenomenon. I have been known to do this sometimes and the girls give me a look that says, "Dad, you are SO unevolved."
