Actually, the free sharing of ideas among VFP programmers is largely a reality. I don't know anyone who hoards his/her solutions or code. Naturally those who sell sophisticated add-ons to the language are unlikely to donate all of their code -- they are trying to sell it to you, after all -- but even they are generous with helpful suggestions even though many of the concepts they freely discuss are also in their products.
Take a look just at this site. A lot of people, and not just the sysops, spent a lot of time helping others with problems. OK, you don't necessarily find someone who is willing to write your code for you (and why would you expect it), but short of that you can get a lot of help here.
