Loosely "Obama has really succeeded in knocking the china off the shelf in the Middle East and this means Egypt has taken the place of Iraq." ( the first part is pretty idiomatic, but if I remember correctly it sort of means messing around without regards to the consequences ) I think the tas is without the tail - i.e. teacup rather than stone. And the verb oynamak is one of those verbs that means "to play" but is used in a lot of compound - like "make" or "have" in English. "oynatmak" is to make someone play ... basardi ( with a tail on the s pronounced sh ) is the past tense of basarmak - to acheive or accomplish. So the whole thing could mean "has succeeded in knocking the china off the shelf in the Middle East" But it's been over 30 years since I used it every day ...

Interesting language - lots of verbal nouns and suffix construction.

Metin : "taslari yerinden oynatmak" ne demek ? "making the teacups fall off" ? "yer yerinden oynasa" yani ?

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
