>Hi,
>I *did* get time to try the code. Apart from having to fall back to the VFP8 version of ALINES() (which has no inbuilt option to drop empty lines) it works great. The only problem I see now is that in order to check whether a user has Internet access we first need to check whether they have access to windows scripting and local file write permissions :-{
>

(1) Alines - try the 4 possibilities - see what the output is - adapt the code - sorry I did not see that - I went straight from vfp6 to vfp9
(2) local file write permissions
I use sys(2023), ie the tmp file locatiion - that should be Ok

(3) Windows scripting
I have not had any installation that had that disabled - I use vbRegEx a lot of times

Maybe (a) run /N7 ping www.etc.com >theTempFile
or (b) start the command with windows api - there's a sample somewhere in the download - I'll see if I can find it

update : download#33581 or download#9477 - have not tried either of them

>I thought the 'More Effective C#' book was great. I initially just skimmed it from cover to cover and have only *really* read the first couple of sections (on Generics and Multithreading). Plenty of meat and interesting insights. I'll definitely queue up the sequel for when I've finished this one......

It's interesting stuff to read - even for the more advanced
The 'sequel' is the book before the one you're reading
