One gig of memory is not a lot on any Windows machine, so adding at least another would probably be a good idea as memory is likely pinched for any applications running on the box. VFP will consume as much memory as is availalbe (up to a certain point) but in a 1 gig system there's not that much memory to start with.

If your processing is disk intensive and you got slow drives a faster drive will also help dramatcally and a fast machine in general will obviously improve performance... CPU/Disk/Memory is so cheap these days it's hard not to think of optimization of hardware as one of the first things before even tweaking custom software (which is expensive) that might be slow but works :-)
