>National Health is a whole 'nother tax. You'll pay that whether or not your pay income tax.

Right. But could I get on NH if I weren't an employee?

>The social benefits you'll pay for you will never receive -- welfare, housing subsidies, the UK version of social security, etc.

Well, I could say the same about the taxes I pay in the U.S. :) In any event, it's not inconceivable that I'll remain in the UK and take my citizenship.

>I lived in the UK for may years and have lots of friends there, but I've met very few of UKers who thought their tax system was reasonable. Frankly, I'd pay that kind of tax only when someone held a gun to my head, and not a second before. :)

I haven't met anyone anywhere who thought their tax system was reasonable. :) Which isn't to say I don't believe you that the British system is particularly onerous.
