I just received this email from tekpub.com. They were already highly esteemed by me and now are even more so. The email comes personally from Rob Conery, which is very cool. I have been watching their video learning series on ASP.NET MVC, presented by Rob and Steven Sanderson. He has an amiable style which is never at any time a substitute for knowledge. These guys are the bomb.

Tekpub Outage - Here's a Gift For You
We were down for 13 hours when the datacenter where our instance is located went offline. Of all the contingencies that we planned for, a datacenter outage was the least probable - so we didn't cover it completely. We have backups, we could have moved and gotten back on our feet in short order. We didn't - we trusted the updates given to us and that was a bad decision.
I made the choice on hour 4 to move our site to a West-coast instance and to get the site up and running on a new server. I accomplished this by hour 6, but was then facing the choice: "do I permanently change servers?".
Once you start taking orders - that's your database. I was about to say yes to that question and throw the switch - but then I went back to reading the service outage updates. They insisted that a solution to the outage was just a few hours away - so I opted for patience.
We were ready for the outage - we have backup and rollover plans should our server take a dirt nap. We didn't have plans for our datacenter going offline completely. And I should have.
You, as a Tekpub subscriber, were on the unfortunate receiving end of The Outage Dance and that should not be the case. You're paying money for a service - and you didn't get that service.
As a way of apologizing - here's a coupon for 30 Days of Tekpub that you can use as you please. We don't take your business lightly.
Your Code: PPdofxTyc5zTe87bWl
You can redeem this coupon here

Thank you for your business - and if you have any questions please shoot me an email at rob@tekpub.com.
