>>>I like trickle-down much better than Nobama's tinkle-on. We were better off under any of the presidents since Jimmy Carter left office than we have been under the Great Obfuscator. Gas was running around 1.80 a gallon when Bush left office....Oh well, as James Carville liked to say - It's the Economy Stupid! And it will be the same when Obama loses to whomever lines up against him.

>>Just before the 2008 election, gas prices here were the highest I can remember them being. Yes, they dropped after that, but even this latest rise hasn't gone back to those prices.

DOE data:
http://www.eia.gov/oog/info/gdu/gaspump.htmlNote the peak in summer '08, higher than the April '11 prices.
So while you may have lucked out a little in '08, looks like my memory of that peak being higher is accurate.
>Personally I'm all for tacking on another several $/gallon tax on gasoline (and non-commercial diesel - yep - show ID) that could go to alternative energy development (absolutely NONE to oil companies for any reason).

>Since too many people in this country are still way too short sighted, a weaning from oil needs to be pushed rather than just stalled for another decade.
Here, I agree with you. We should have tacked on 50 cents to a dollar a gallon years ago to help wean people off of gasoline.
