My thought is that was the plan all long and what was said about HTML5 and Javascript slipped out.

I think that even if the developer story ends up being good at Build, many are questioning the decision of making loyal developers wait and wonder, and the public discussion and articles that result in that ambiguity. I do feel bad for the Microsoft marketing/evangelist/community folks who have to deal with the backlash in anticipation of the Build conference.
